Sin Is Like Cataracts
By Mark Flippo
Matthew 5:28 (ESV)
"But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart."
1 Corinthians 6:18-20 (ESV)
"Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body."
This illustration God gave to me very clearly. We were sitting in Bible class when this popped into my head as a mind's eye vision! We understand that cataracts don't happen overnight. They take years to develop. You gradually lose your vision. Things are becoming more gray than black and white. Colors lose their luster. You lose your sight a little each day! This I know for a fact because I had that problem in both eyes
a few years ago.
After my first surgery because they would only do one eye at a time. When I covered up my bad eye, it was amazing how bright everything was. It was like being blind and seeing for the first time. Then the other eye was fixed. WOW! I felt like a child with this wondrous piece of candy before my eyes. My mouth fell open and I just stared like it was the first time I ever saw trees.
Sin is the same way! It will gradually crepe up on you! You do not notice that you are not feeling God's Spirit that same way as before. You become numb to Him.
It continues on until you never feel Him any more! Nothing will ever change until Doctor Jesus gets His very finest scalpel and begins to remove the sin that has pilled up on your spiritual sight and has made you almost blind!
He continues until all of the heavy burden of sin is removed and you look at Jesus with amazement and wonder again like you did when you first met Him! Repent if you do not feel Him the way you used to! Let Him do the surgery on your eyes once again!
