Out Of The Dust
By Mark Flippo
Man tries to conform God in their image instead of understanding man was created in His image. If you ask someone who God is to them you will most likely hear a different view that what you believe. At times there can be division within your own congregation. Ask any Muslim, Hindo, and a host of beliefs that are very wide, who God's will be perhaps a suttle change from others you know.
If you had to describe God to someone what would you say? I have been asked that before. I was very young in God so it was hard to put into words who He was to me. As I grew in the Lord I learned different titles of God. Omnipotent, Omniscient and Omnipresent. The first means all powerful. The second means all knowing. The third means everywhere at the same time. The following are Hebrew titles for God.
17 Names of God from the Hebrew Language
Elohim: Creator: Genesis 1:1.
Jehovah: The covenant name of God; our Father. Genesis 2:7.
El-Shaddai: My supply. My nourishment, Almighty God. Genesis 17:1.
Adonai: Master or Lord. Genesis 18:3.
Jehovah-Jireh: Provider and my vision. Genesis 22:14.
Jehovah-Rophe: My healer. Exodus 15:26.
Jehovah-Nissi: My victory. Exodus 17:15.
Jehovah-Mikkadesh: My sanctifier. Leviticus 20:7,8.
Jehovah-Tsidkenou: My righteousness. Jeremiah 23:5,6.
Jehovah-Shalom: My peace (fullness). Judges 6:24.
Jehovah-Tsebahoth: God of Hosts. 1 Samuel 1:3 etc.
Jehovah-Heleyon: God most High. Psalm 7:17.
Jehovah-Rohi: My Shepherd. Psalm 23:1.
Jehovah- Shamah: He is there; He is present. Ezekiel 48:35.
Jehovah-Elohay: God my God. Zechariah 14:5.
Ehyah Asher Ehyeh: Literally, I will be what I will be.(I am that I am) Exodus 3:14.
Jah (poetical language) The Lord. Expressive of eternal existence. Psalm 68:4
If you can not find who God is to you maybe these will clear it up.
These tell us so much about our Heavenly Father that I know better now how to describe God to anyone. He is my all in all! He is a need solver! He is my doctor! He is my banker! He is really more than we can ever truly express with words! May you grow and learn that He is everything you need all of the time! This is one lesson you may want to print out and put on your wall where you pray, to remind you of any need you are bringing to Him that He is Mr fix-it! God bless and help you grow in Faith and Wisdom!
