A Greater Coat Than Joseph's
By Mark Flippo
As the firstborn son of Rachel, Jacob’s second wife, Joseph was given the birthright. The “coat of many colors” Jacob gave to Joseph (see Genesis 37:3) is thought to represent the fact that Joseph received the birthright (see William Wilson, Old Testament Word Studies [1978], “colour,” p. 82).Remember that although Joseph was the firstborn son of Rachel, he was the eleventh son born. Even though he was worthy, we can imagine how the ten older brothers must have felt about him receiving the birthright blessings.
The above photo shows Christ giving His Coat of Righteousness away. Joseph was given a great blessing when his father bestowed that famous coat of many colors on him! Since that time much has changed but the principle is the same. Jesus came and died so that He could give one of the greatest gifts that a person can attain. When His pure and perfect righteousness is given to you, you can live above everything you encounter in this life. For Joseph it showed His father's great Love for him. Now our heavenly Father shows everyone how much He Loves us! Is there anything you want to express to your Father in Heaven?
