Evil Disguises Itself
By Mark Flippo
1 John 4:1 (ESV)
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.
Philippians 1:9-10 (ESV)
And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,
You have to really be careful about who you trust! It happens that you meet someone and they seem to be great. They know just what to say to you to gain your trust. They may share their background and it is so much like yours, it is like they went through the same things you have. Her husband treats her like yours has been mistreating you.
You seem to have a common bond. You may feel a little consoled by their pain because it is so much like your pain. Just be very careful about sharing very much of yourself. Put this person into urgent prayer and make sure there is not an ulterior motive in wanting to be friends with you. Some want to influence as many as they can and draw them into their private little kingdom.
They want to be your shepherd
even though you are unaware what they are trying to do. Tread very lightly with this kind of person. Don't let anyone take you out of your home church to become part of their groupies. It will end disastrously. Make sure your foundation is tried and true with Jesus. He must be your guide in everything and with everyone!
