Not What It's Cracked Up To Be
By Mark Flippo
Wolf Branch District 113 Superintendent Scott Harres says he hopes the damage at Wolf Branch Middle School caused by mine subsidence can be repaired so students can move back in eventually. Starting Monday, Sept. 18, the entire district will be housed at the elementary school building.
This is what happens when you do not have a firm foundation.
The ground they built on had an old abandoned mine under it. Someone should have done a better job and used deep ground penetrating radar. When we do not take the time to build in the right place it is just as bad as not having a good foundation. They may not be able to salvage this building. Of all places for this to happen to it was a building for education. I hope the students and faculty learn a permanent lesson from this disaster. Know who, what, where, why, and how, before you build anywhere!
