For The Cat Lovers
By Mark Flippo
The story of Daniel in the lions' den (chapter 6 in the Book of Daniel) tells how Daniel is raised to high office by his royal master Darius the Mede, but jealous rivals trick Darius into issuing a decree which condemns Daniel to death. Hoping for Daniel's deliverance, but unable to save him, the king has him cast into the pit of lions. At daybreak he hurries back, asking if God had saved his friend. Daniel replies that God had sent an angel to close the jaws of the lions, "because I was found blameless before him." The king has those who had conspired against Daniel, and their wives and children, thrown to the lions in his place, and commands to all the people of the whole world to "tremble and fear before the God of Daniel".
I am not sure how Daniel greeted these hungry lions. Did he say "here kitty kitty." Or did he just say I am tired and I need a pillow. You look plump come here. However he talked to the lions I am sure he spent part of his time praying. This did not detract him from the time he spent in prayer. I would imagine he had the most restful night's sleep he had in a long time. An angel there to keep the cats calm was a great comfort. Now to the part of the story that is very sad to me.
Those that conspired against Daniel were thrown in as well as their wife's and their children. I know God had His reason to have the children killed also but they did nothing wrong. Perhaps they were developing attitudes like their parents. Whatever the reason they did not go to hell. I hope. Think about what you do and how it affects your whole family! Do you want evil to fall on your family because you failed?
