Understanding Prophetic Language
By Mark Flippo
So many people get confused by the books of Daniel, Ezekiel and Revelation. They do not understand how to study those books. The first thing you need to know is that a prophet does not talk like a regular person when they are prophesying. They use a very picturesque language. They try to help us understand by using things we already know about to help us know what they are trying to say. Why you ask? Because the scripture says:
2 Corinthians 4:3 “But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:”
God has designed His Word for those that are seeking Him. Memorizing scripture will not get you to Heaven. Only whoever God opens their understanding will know what He wants them to know. There is a saying of "Principle of First Mention." To better get a grip on what you are reading, go back to the first time that phrase or words are used and then bring that understanding to make things clearer. Most of the time you will return to Genesis. Give that a try the next time you want to read prophecy.
If you want to examine more about prophecy these two websites are friends of mine they are very good about how they explain things to make them simpler.
