Rend Your Heart!
By Mark Flippo
Joel 2:12-13 (KJV)
"Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil."
The phrase “rend your heart” originates from the Book of Joel in the Old Testament, where the prophet calls for genuine repentance and heartfelt contrition before God. The command emphasizes internal transformation over external displays. There are times God calls us to really change. He gets tired of our sinning and bad attitudes. We need to feel deeply enough that if we do not change, we will die. You do not want Jesus to come to your heart's door and knock, and you are in the middle of a temper tantrum. Change saints, we must!
