My Dads Toolbox!
By Mark Flippo
My dad had a great eye for finding tools along the road or near a railroad crossing that had fallen off of some careless
truck drivers' truck. I could not remember how many times he would pull his pickup off onto the shoulder and run back an
hold that little bit of gold in his hands. You see we did not have much money and everything he found was like a little pot
of gold! He always took very good care of everything he found. He always had a little twinkle in his eye when he found such treasure. Us boys knew when we got older to return anything that we borrowed. He would get so heartbroken if any of his precious tools went missing. My older brother was a stinker. He borrowed tools but would forget where he got them from. Just
maybe it was because they had a disagreement at that time. My brother had an attitude at times. I knew when to steer clear of him when he was in a mood.
Now back to my dad. He worked from before sunup until after sundown. I learned to really appreciate him more when I grew into manhood and all the work he tried to teach me. My head was not for breaking down and repairing an engine. I worked for the airlines for about three years, then into the printing industry for 30 years. His teaching on having a good work ethic stayed with me all of my life! THANKS DAD! I Miss You Lots! It is true you do not truly miss someone until after they are gone!
I will cry from time to time over that lost relationship! I found this to be a hard lesson to write! I have cried a lot. It brought back found memories! He was a gentle soul, but you did not mess with his family he would defend us fiercely like a lion and his family. He was generous in helping out our local congregation and others along the way! He worked hard for us even though we never knew of all his sacrifices! Gotta go before the tears start flowing again and I can't see to write! Love Ya Dad! Love all of the people that read these lessons may, you never see all of my sacrifices, but I pray with all of my heart, mind, soul and spirit that they touch you deeply and maybe you will make time for your dad if he is still living! Show him that you Love him and treasure your time with him!
